Debunking Joe Biden's claims against anti-Taliban Afghans
So far, the Biden administration has refused to take responsibility for the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021.
There are two rumors, which Joe Biden himself has been spreading in his speeches:
1) Afghans / the Afghan army (or ANA) didn't fight enough against the Taliban
2) Afghans are not united to have a common government for all of Afghanistan.
These claims by Joe Biden are false for the reasons given below. And even if they were right, they are not a valid reason to cast off the US government's responsibilities for the failures in Afghanistan.
1) Debunking the first claim of Joe Biden:
Didn't Afghans fight enough against the Taliban, as Biden initially claimed?
To understand the answer to this wrong claim, it is important to be aware that a war is not merely won by fighting it. The Taliban is a terrorist group, which has terrorized Afghanistan and its citizens. The military strategy should have been adapted on such insurgency and fighting by using intelligence and thorough planning. Afghans were not in the situation of guerilla warfare; they had an official army. Even if there was a mistake, it was on the Afghan government's side, which in return got its orders from the US government.
Besides, the number of Afghans killed against the Taliban were as follows according to an article by AP from 17 August 2021:
Afghan national military and police: 66,000.
Afghan civilians: 47,245.
In an article from 17 April 2021 the BBC even numbers the number of Afghan casualties higher : "But it is the Afghans themselves who have borne the brunt of the casualties, with over 60,000 members of the security forces killed and nearly twice that many civilians."
From these numbers, it can be deducted that in fact it was the wrong planning of the USA, which made Taliban gain control over all of Afghanistan, intentionally or unintentionally.
Moreover Afghans have fought and won several wars:
1839 – 1842: First Anglo-Afghan War
1878–1880: Second Anglo-Afghan War
1919: Third Anglo-Afghan War
1979 – 1989: Soviet-Afghan War
And even the American-Afghan War from November 2001 till August 2021 was against the interest of the people of Afghanistan, as the puppet and pro-Taliban presidents Hamid Karzai and Ashraf Ghani were imposed on Afghans by the USA.
2) Debunking the second claim of Joe Biden:
Didn't Afghans of all ethnicities agree on a single government for the whole country? This claim by Biden and his government officials is completely wrong. Despite the fact that the two Afghan presidents during NATO presence in Afghanistan were of Pashtun origin, corrupt and didn't win in free and fair elections, their presidencies were accepted even by the non-Pashtun peoples of Afghanistan, namely Tajik, Hazara and Uzbek etc. They accepted it by not fighting them, although they rightfully criticized the presidents' corruption. It is worth mentioning that the transition of governance went from Pashtun presidents Karzai and Ghani to Pashtun terrorists Taliban. Thus, power remained within that ethnic group in Afghanistan. The world powers have always preferred Pashtuns leading Afghanistan, as Pashtuns politicians are easier to control.
Again, here Joe Biden tries to find scapegoats for his own failures, by spreading the rumor of Afghan disunity.
3) The Biden administration's support for the Taliban
The Biden administration has neither shown willingness to arm the Afghan resistance against the Taliban, nor has it shown support for unarmed Afghan human rights activists against Taliban. On the contrary, the current US government has increased its financial support for the Taliban and has denied any kind of support to the opposition against the Taliban since their takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021.
Some articles of US government's support for Taliban can be read here:
