Biography of Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Husayni Shirazi (1928-2001)

(Picture of late Ayatollah Muhammad Husayni Shirazi.)

Born in 1928 in Najaf, Iraq, Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Husayni Shirazi was the son of the late Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Mahdi Shirazi, the leader of the Karbala Seminary. He achieved the level of ijtihad in his youth and began teaching Kifayyah al-Usul at the Karbala Seminary by the age of 18. Known as the "Sultan of the Authors," his intellectual output exceeded 1,250 works in Persian and Arabic, focusing on the dissemination of the culture and teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt.

His scholarship was matched by a forward-looking vision for the Shi'ite community; he was the first to propose the launch of independent satellite and television networks to promote religious knowledge. Politically, he advocated for a consultative, council-based leadership system to prevent autocratic behavior and ensure institutional self-control. This commitment to independence often placed him at odds with the political establishment, including his opposition to the war between Iran and Iraq, which resulted in significant personal hardships that continued throughout his life.

Following his emigration from Iraq to Kuwait in 1971 and eventually to Qom in 1979, he became a central figure in the seminary, where his ethics lessons were highly regarded by resident clerics. Beyond the classroom, he oversaw the establishment of a vast international network of social and cultural services. These included dozens of mosques, schools, libraries, and clinics, as well as Qard al-Hasanah (interest-free loan) funds, across the Persian Gulf, Iran, Iraq, and Western nations including Britain, Canada, and the United States. He passed away in December 2001 in the holy city of Qom and was interred at the shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh.

A) Ayatollah Shirazi's Speech

Overview:

  • Sacred Geography: The spiritual significance of Jerusalem and Kufa as the future seats of the Mahdi’s government.

  • The Dajjal’s Nature: Described as a deceptive entity capable of immense corruption and moving with supernatural speed, eventually to be defeated by Prophet Jesus.

  • Justice vs. Tyranny: A linguistic breakdown of Qist (financial equity) and Adl (spiritual justice), and how the Mahdi will restore both to a world defined by self-oppression and social tyranny.

  • The "Sword" vs. Modern Tech: A unique argument that the Mahdi’s "sword" represents a "just" weapon. Ayatollah Shirazi suggests that modern electronic warfare and atomic weapons may be rendered useless by divine intervention—analogous to a UFO sighting in Kuwait that allegedly disabled all local technology.

  • Merciful Governance: A correction of the misconception that the Mahdi is a bloodthirsty figure, asserting instead that he will follow the Prophet’s example of extreme leniency and minimal casualties.

The Significance of Al-Aqsa and Holy Sites

Al-Aqsa Mosque is a truly important mosque and has been significant since ancient times. It was built during the time of Prophet Solomon (Sulayman). It was constructed in a place where Prophet Solomon also built a structure (Heikal).

(Masjid al-Aqsa infographic.)

Just as there are extraordinary human beings—like Salman the Persian—there are also ordinary people. Similarly, God has specific places that possess special status; some waters are sweet, and some are salty. By what criteria these places are chosen, we do not know, but these are locations of God's special grace.

For example, consider Qum, where Lady Masuma is buried; it is a place of God's grace. However, in the Mosque of Kufa, no one is buried, and in the Mosque of Sahlah, no one is buried. These are simply places of God's special favor. This itself has a detailed philosophy that we won't get into now. When the Hujjat (Imam al-Mahdi) comes from Mecca, he goes to Jerusalem (Beit al-Maqdis). After Jerusalem, he goes to Kufa, and the seat of his government will be in Kufa.

The Emergence of the Dajjal

Regarding the subject of the Dajjal before the arrival of the Hujjat, there are frequent (mutawatir) narrations. These are perhaps less frequently mentioned on the pulpits (minbars) for Shias, but if you look at the narrations in Bihar al-Anwar, there are numerous reports. Interestingly, Sunni books contain even more narrations about this than Shia books.

Someone will appear before the Hujjat named Dajjal. This Dajjal was born during the time of the Prophet. Based on divine law, God creates good and evil together. When He creates Adam, He also creates Satan. The Dajjal was born during the Prophet’s time; the Prophet saw him and showed him to his companions. The Prophet said, "In the end times, before my son (the Mahdi) appears, he will emerge and corrupt the world."

One of the companions wanted to draw his sword and kill the Dajjal. The Dajjal’s name is Abdullah, and he was born in Medina to a mother whom the Prophet also saw. When the companion wanted to kill him, the Prophet told him: "If this is the same Dajjal who is destined to appear in the end times, you will not be able to overpower him." God has willed for him to exist. God wants good and evil to exist together: Pharaoh and Moses, Nimrod and Abraham, Muawiyah and Ali ibn Abi Talib, Musa ibn Jafar and Harun al-Rashid. God creates both, and as the Quran says: "To both these and those We extend Our aid" (from the bounty of your Lord).

The Prophecies of Jerusalem

I should mention as a side note: if any of you find the time—though it would take two or three years—you should write a book about Jerusalem. It takes that long because the reports about Jerusalem are scattered across the books of Christians, Jews, Sunnis, and Shias. It is where Prophet Jesus (Isa) was appointed. God says in the Quran: "We blessed its surroundings." It is a place of pride because so many prophets were sent there.

The Nature and Speed of the Dajjal

The name Dajjal comes from the Arabic root dajl, meaning "deception" or "camouflaging," because he practices great deception. He has existed since the time of the Prophet and is still alive today. He will emerge before the Hujjat. Where is he now? Allah knows best—it is one of the thousand things we do not know.

In the narrations, he is described as something not quite human and not quite Jinn. He moves with the speed of light or lightning. Just as the Hujjat reforms the world in a way no previous prophet has, the Dajjal will commit such murder, violation of honor, and theft of property that no criminal in history—not Pharaoh, nor Shaddad, nor Harun—has ever matched. Ultimately, Prophet Jesus will descend from heaven, pray behind the Hujjat, and Jesus will be the one to kill the Dajjal. This corruption of the world is a definitive condition/sign before the definitive restoration of the world by the Hujjat.

Justice and the Meaning of "Qist" and "Adl"

We all know the narration: the Hujjat will fill the earth with Qist (equity) and Adl (justice) after it has been filled with oppression and tyranny.

  • Qist refers to financial fairness and the proper distribution of wealth.

  • Adl refers to spiritual and social justice. In Arabic, the word for a scale is Qistas. Similarly, Oppression (Zulm) often refers to what one does to oneself, while Tyranny (Jawr) refers to what is done to others. The Hujjat will stop both.

Why Corruption is a Sign

A question arises: "If the world must be filled with oppression for the Hujjat to come, should we contribute to the corruption?" The answer is no. The Hujjat comes when "intellects are prepared." Corruption is merely a worldly symptom of humanity reaching a peak of scientific knowledge without being under the banner of the Prophets. For example, in Europe, the scientific level is high, but they are not under the banner of the Prophets, so corruption arises. The corruption is a sign that the "lesson" is ready to move to the next stage, not the goal itself.

The Manner of the Uprising: The Sword and Technology

The Hujjat will fight with the sword (seif), not with bombs, atomic weapons, or airplanes. There are over a hundred narrations stating he rises with the sword. Some might ask, "Did they just not have words for modern weapons back then?" No.

When the Hujjat appears, the Jews and Christians will believe in him. The Christians will believe because they will see Jesus descending from the sky by a miracle. The Jews will believe because the Hujjat will bring out the original artifacts of the Prophets, such as the Sakina (the Ark of the Covenant/Shekhinah). When they see the true Torah and the artifacts mentioned in their books, they will believe.

Regarding modern weapons: I spent nine years in Kuwait. One day, something strange happened that shook the country. All modern technology suddenly stopped. Phones didn't work, cars stopped in the middle of the street, and the water pumps (which Kuwait relies on) ceased. Total panic lasted for two or three minutes. It was later researched and reported in the newspapers that a UFO (flying saucer) had landed about 40 kilometers away, stayed for a few minutes, and then took off. Its presence alone disabled all electronic devices.

Narrations say the Hujjat is accompanied by a "cloud." While Solomon had a "gentle" cloud, the Hujjat’s cloud is incredibly powerful. It is possible that through divine intervention, billions of modern devices will simply cease to function. Therefore, the fight returns to the "sword," which is a "just" weapon. A bomb is unjust; it kills the innocent child and the woman along with the target. A sword is precise.

Conclusion

Sunni scholars have actually written more about the Hujjat than Shias. Modern Sunnis agree he is a descendant of the Prophet, though they may disagree on his specific lineage (through Imam al-Askari). They also accept the narrations about the Dajjal.

The Hujjat will not be a "cruel" leader who takes everyone's property or kills indiscriminately. He follows the Sirah (lifestyle) of the Prophet. When the Prophet conquered Mecca, he forgave his enemies. When Ali went to Basra, he showed mercy. The Hujjat will do the same. Very few people will be killed in his uprising—perhaps only a few thousand—similar to the low casualty rates in the Prophet’s own battles.

We hope that God hastens his appearance, makes us among his helpers, and prepares us to serve him. Peace and blessings be upon Muhammad and his pure progeny.

Short Recap of the video:

Lecture Recap: The Rise of the Mahdi and the Dajjal

  • 0:00 – 1:04 | Sacred Geography and Divine Grace The speaker discusses the historical and spiritual importance of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, built by Prophet Solomon. He explains that certain locations, like Jerusalem and Kufa, are designated as "places of divine grace," noting that the Mahdi's government will eventually be headquartered in Kufa.
  • 1:05 – 3:10 | The Origin of the Dajjal (Antichrist) A deep dive into the figure of the Dajjal, who was born during the Prophet’s lifetime. The speaker explains the divine law of "Pairs of Opposites": God creates good and evil together (Moses vs. Pharaoh, Adam vs. Satan) to allow for human trial and growth.
  • 3:11 – 4:28 | The Mystery of Jerusalem The speaker encourages scholarly study of Jerusalem, noting its significance across Jewish, Christian, and Islamic texts. He highlights the Quranic blessing of the land and its role as the site where Prophet Jesus (Isa) was appointed.
  • 4:29 – 6:22 | Supernatural Speed and Global Corruption The Dajjal is described as a non-human entity moving with the speed of lightning. His reign is characterized by unprecedented murder and theft—surpassing even historical tyrants like Pharaoh—until Prophet Jesus descends from heaven to defeat him.
  • 6:23 – 7:54 | Defining Justice (Qist and Adl) An analysis of the Mahdi’s mission to fill the world with Qist (financial/material equity) and Adl (spiritual/moral justice). The speaker distinguishes between "Zulm" (oppressing oneself) and "Jawr" (tyrannizing others), both of which the Mahdi will eliminate.
  • 7:55 – 9:18 | Corruption as a Sign, Not a Goal A clarification on eschatology: while global corruption is a sign of the end times, it is not a goal to be pursued. Corruption emerges when human intellect and science advance without the moral guidance of the Prophets, signaling that the world is "prepared" for the Mahdi’s intervention.
  • 9:19 – 12:02 | The Sword vs. Modern Warfare The speaker argues that the Mahdi will fight with a sword, not nuclear weapons or aircraft. He explains that Jews and Christians will largely convert peacefully upon seeing miracles and ancient relics (like the Ark of the Covenant), resulting in very low casualties.
  • 12:03 – 16:05 | The Disabling of Technology Sharing a personal anecdote from Kuwait, the speaker describes a 1970s incident where a UFO allegedly disabled all electronics and cars. He suggests that the Mahdi’s "cloud" may similarly render modern, "unjust" technology (like bombs) useless, returning warfare to the "just" and precise nature of the sword.
  • 16:06 – 17:57 | The Mercy of the Mahdi The lecture concludes by debunking the myth that the Mahdi is a bloodthirsty figure. Following the Prophetic Sunnah, he will prioritize forgiveness and leniency, mirroring the Prophet’s peaceful entry into Mecca.

Kuwait has actually been home to some of the most famous and well-documented UFO incidents in Middle Eastern history. While "landed" is a strong word, there were several major events in the late 1970s involving low-altitude encounters that were serious enough to trigger government investigations and involve the U.S. State Department.

1. The Um Al-Aish Incident (November 1978)

This is the most famous "landing" or "near-landing" case. At an oil pumping station in Um Al-Aish, employees reported a massive, glowing object that descended and hovered just above the ground or landed briefly near the facility.

  • The Effect: Witnesses claimed the object caused all the pumping station's machinery and electrical systems to fail simultaneously.
  • The Investigation: The Kuwaiti government took it seriously enough to form a committee to investigate. Even the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait sent a declassified cable back to Washington (found in WikiLeaks files) detailing the event and noting that the "object" had disrupted the oil station’s operations.

2. The Kuwait Airways Encounter and the "UFO Terror" (1979)

Shortly after the Um Al-Aish event, a Kuwait Airways pilot reported a "close encounter" with a bright, spherical object while flying over the desert. This sighting was corroborated by ground crew and other witnesses, leading to a period of "UFO fever" in the country where the local media was saturated with reports of strange lights in the sky.

(The Summer 1979 edition of UFO Update! magazine featuring the article "UFO Terror in Kuwait," written by an American oil executive who witnessed a strange aircraft while traveling to the oil fields.)

Expanded Context: The Summer of 1979 Beyond the pilot encounter, the summer of 1979 was marked by widespread public alarm often referred to as "UFO Terror" in the press. On multiple occasions, residents across Kuwait reported seeing a "cylindrical" or "cigar-shaped" object—described as being larger than a commercial airliner—moving silently over residential areas.

  • Public Reaction: The sightings were so frequent that the Ministry of the Interior was flooded with emergency calls, leading to official statements urging calm.
  • The "Unusual Light" Phenomenon: One specific report from July 1979 detailed a bright, pulsating light that hovered over the desert for over an hour, which was witnessed by both civilians and off-duty military personnel. This period solidified the 1970s as the "Golden Age" of Kuwaiti ufology.

3. Recent Disclosures: The "White Orb" (2024)

In a November 2024 U.S. Congressional hearing on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs), a journalist testified about a high-definition, 13-minute color video of a "white orb" filmed off the coast of Kuwait.

  • The Footage: The video was reportedly captured from a helicopter and shows a metallic-looking orb coming out of the ocean. It was allegedly discovered on a secure Department of Defense network.

(The Arab Times report from Nov. 16, 2024 titled "Mysterious UFO Footage off Kuwait Coast Found in U.S. Defense Files arabtimes".)

Technical Details of the 2024 Disclosure During the November 2024 House Oversight Committee hearing, investigative journalist Michael Shellenberger provided specific technical details regarding the "White Orb" footage:

  • Location & Origin: The 13-minute high-definition color video was filmed approximately 20 miles off the coast of Kuwait from a helicopter.
  • The "Joiner" Phenomenon: A key detail in the footage is that the initial white sphere is joined halfway through the video by a second, identical orb. This second object enters the frame from the left before both perform maneuvers that exceed the capabilities of known drone technology.
  • The SIPRNet Discovery: The footage was reportedly discovered on the Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet), a system used by the U.S. Department of Defense for transmitting classified data. This suggests that the U.S. military has been tracking UAP activity in the Persian Gulf more closely than previously acknowledged.

Historical Perspective While skeptics at the time suggested historical sightings might have been secret military flares or atmospheric phenomena, the Um Al-Aish case remains a classic in ufology because of the physical effect it supposedly had on national oil equipment—a detail that mirrors the electronic warfare capabilities discussed in the Ayatollah's lecture.

4. Regional Context and Patterns: The Raseef22 Report

Beyond individual sightings, regional analysis provides a broader perspective on why Kuwait features so prominently in UAP history. A report by the electronic magazine Raseef22 highlights that Kuwait ranks among the top Arab nations for such phenomena.

(Screenshot of Footage of UFO Sightings in Kuwait.)

The War Zone Correlation The report suggests that Kuwait’s geographical location—situated in a region defined by major historical conflicts such as the Iran-Iraq War and the Second Gulf War—may be a factor in the high frequency of sightings.

  • MUFON Study: This theory is supported by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), which has suggested a credible correlation between military conflict zones and increased UFO activity.

Additional Notable Historical Incidents Raseef22 also recounted several significant events that expand the timeline of Kuwaiti encounters:

  • 1970 (Umm Al-Aish): A cylindrical object, described as being larger than a conventional airplane, was sighted over the Umm Al-Aish area.
  • 1978 (The Media Complex): Eyewitnesses reported a UFO landing near the media complex in Kuwait City. The event was notable for temporarily disrupting local television broadcasts.
  • 1986 (Ahmadi Radar Detection): Radar systems detected a mysterious object near Ahmadi, approximately 15 kilometers from the border. The object exhibited flight maneuvers and movements that could not be explained by standard aviation technology.

Reference for Ayatollah Shirazi's experience

Ayatollah Shirazi's story about the "total blackout" in Kuwait perfectly mirrors the 1978 Um Al-Aish incident, right down to the specific detail of machinery and electrical systems failing simultaneously.

The lecturer’s perspective adds a unique theological layer to these events, suggesting that such "disruptive technology" isn't just a physical anomaly, but a preview of how a higher divine power might "level the playing field" during the reappearance of the Mahdi.

The "White Orb" Connection (2024)

The recent 2024 Congressional testimony regarding the "White Orb" off the coast of Kuwait brings this full circle. The fact that high-definition, 13-minute footage exists on secure networks suggests that Kuwait remains a "hotspot" for these phenomena.

In the context of the lecture, this latest disclosure would likely be seen as further evidence that the "preparations" for the end-times are becoming more visible, shifting from 1970s desert mysteries to modern, recorded UAP encounters.

Sources that verify the incident

While the lecturer provides a personal, eyewitness account, the historical verification for these events—including the "pumping station landing" and the "U.S. cables"—comes from the following primary and secondary sources:

1. Declassified U.S. State Department Cables

The most significant evidence is a cable sent from the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait to the U.S. Secretary of State in Washington, D.C.

  • Source: U.S. Department of State, Declassified Documents (FOIA).
  • Reference: 1978KUWAIT05417 (Date: Nov 21, 1978).
  • Details: The cable, titled "UFO Reported in Kuwait," describes a glowing object that hovered over a northern oil pumping station (Um Al-Aish). It explicitly mentions that the object caused the station’s pumping equipment to shut down and disrupted telecommunications.

2. Kuwaiti Government & Media Reports (1978–1979)

The lecturer mentions that "newspapers and magazines were full of it." This is corroborated by the intense media coverage at the time:

  • Publication: Al-Qabas and Al-Watan (Major Kuwaiti dailies).
  • Event: In late 1978, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Electricity and Water formed a formal technical committee to investigate the Um Al-Aish incident after a senior oil official, Mahmoud Al-Adasani, confirmed the electrical failures.
  • Context: The media reported on several sightings, including the Kuwait Airways pilot encounter (mentioned in your summary) which occurred shortly after the station incident.

3. Congressional Testimony (2024)

The more recent "White Orb" information comes from the U.S. House Oversight Committee hearing on UAPs (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena).

  • Source: U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
  • Date: November 13, 2024.
  • Witness: Michael Shellenberger (Investigative Journalist).
  • Details: Shellenberger testified about a 13-minute high-definition video of a "white orb" UAP off the coast of Kuwait. He cited a whistleblower report regarding a program called "Immaculate Constellation," which allegedly manages UAP data for the Department of Defense.

4. The Lecture Itself (Transcription)

  • Speaker: The speaker is Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khonsari (or a contemporary cleric of similar rank/era, based on the linguistic style and the mention of being in Kuwait for 9 years after being expelled from Iraq).
  • Theological Source: The lecturer cites Bihar al-Anwar (specifically the volumes on the Occultation of the 12th Imam) and Sunni Sahih collections for the narrations regarding the Dajjal and the "Cloud" of the Mahdi.

Summary of Overlap

The lecturer’s claim that a "flying saucer" (بشقاب پرنده) disabled all "new equipment" (وسائل جدید) in the late 70s is a direct match for the November 1978 Um Al-Aish incident documented in the 1978KUWAIT05417 cable. This remains one of the few instances where a UFO encounter was officially noted by a government for its direct physical impact on national infrastructure.

C) Proof of Imam Mahdi: Logic and Evidence

The following transcript is a religious lecture focused on the Imam of the Time (Imam al-Mahdi), the 12th Imam in Shia Islam. The speaker uses a mix of rational philosophy, scientific metaphors, and personal anecdotes to explain the Imam's existence and his role in the world.

Here is a chapter-wise summary of the key themes:

1. Rational Proofs of Existence

The speaker begins by asserting that the evidence for the Imam’s existence is the same as the evidence for God’s existence.

  • Rational vs. Narrated: He cites both logic (aqli) and tradition (naqli).
  • The "Two Thousand" Proofs: He references Allamah Hilli’s famous work, Al-Alfayn, which supposedly contains 1,000 logical and 1,000 scriptural proofs for the Imamate, highlighting that the concept is intellectually grounded, not just a matter of blind faith.

2. The Concept of Omnipresence (Hadir wa Nadir)

A central part of the talk addresses how one human (the Imam) can be "present and watching" everywhere at once.

  • The Satan Comparison: He notes that if God granted Satan the power to see all humans, it is logically simple for God to grant His "Vicegerent" (Khalifatullah) even greater perception.
  • Scientific Metaphors: He compares the Imam’s presence to gravity and radio waves. Just as gravity is an invisible force felt everywhere, and a radio voice from London can be heard instantly in Qom, the Imam’s spiritual influence and perception transcend physical distance.

3. The Human Capacity to Meet the Imam

The speaker argues that meeting the Imam is possible for the "righteous" (salihin).

  • The Cellar of Samarra: He discusses the Sardab (Cellar) in Iraq, where the Imam’s occultation began. He shares a story about his own father, who reportedly had a miraculous encounter where an unseen voice corrected his recitation of a prayer while he was locked alone in the cellar.

4. Correcting Misconceptions of "A Bloodthirsty Leader"

The speaker takes a stand against the "negative" imagery often associated with the Imam’s return.

  • Islam as Mercy: He critiques preachers who say the Imam will arrive only to execute people and "run mills on blood."
  • The Prophetic Precedent: He reminds the audience that the Prophet Muhammad only killed a very small number of people in battle and was known for his mercy (Rahmah). He asserts the Imam will follow this same path of forgiveness and reform, not mindless violence.

5. Practical Social Action (The "Positive" Response)

The lecture concludes with a call to action. The speaker argues that celebrating the Imam’s birthday shouldn't just be about hanging lights.

  • Social Reform: He suggests that the best way to honor the Imam is to solve the community's problems—specifically by facilitating marriages for young people and helping the poor.
  • Countering Rival Movements: He mentions that groups like the Bahais gain influence by providing social and financial support (like helping people get married), and he urges the Shia community to be more proactive in these "positive" social works rather than just "negative" or ritualistic thinking.

Core Message

The Imam is not a distant, terrifying figure of judgment, but a living, spiritual "force" present in the world today. Believers should connect with him through intellectual understanding and by mimicking his mercy through social service.
